Facts and History about Dusseldorf International Airport

Düsseldorf Airport - All Information on Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)

Düsseldorf Airport (IATA: DUS) is located about 7 kilometers north of downtown Düsseldorf, the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

It is one of the largest airports in Germany, flying millions of passengers to domestic and international destinations.

Three passenger terminals and two runways serve the Airport. Its busiest routes include Palma de Mallorca, Munich, Berlin, Istanbul, London, Antalya, Vienna, Zürich, Dubai, and Hamburg.

The history of the facility date back to its opening in 1927.

In 1939, civil operations at the facility stopped, and the military used the airfield during World War II. The Airport reopened for public use in 1948 under the British administration. British European Airways operated its first international flights to London.

Massive development of the facility began in the late 1960s, including the expansion of the main runway in 1969.

Today it boasts a modern complex composed of three terminals: Terminal A (1977), Terminal B (which was initially inaugurated in 1973), and Terminal C (1986).

Two efficient railway services also serve Düsseldorf Airport.

One is located on the lower level of Terminal C and the other at Düsseldorf Airport Train Station, approximately 2.5 kilometers from the Airport.

The facility is highly mobile with its monorail service, SkyTrain, which connects several areas of the airport complex.

The official currency of Germany is the Euro. The currency sign for the Euro is € while the code is EUR.

The US dollars (US$) are not generally accepted, but you can keep a small supply of dollars with you when you go to Germany.

Dollars are good to have on hand in case of an emergency or if you cannot get any local currency.

Amenities at the facility include ample dining choices, shopping, and facilities like restrooms, ATMs, and many more. A currency exchange center is also available at the Airport.

This gateway sits 48 meters above sea level at 51°17′22″N and 006°46′00″E in Düsseldorf, Germany.
